INDIGESTION

Also know as dyspepsia, the term "indigestion" covers a wide range of unpleasant symptoms. One of these remedies will cure you but you need to be careful with what food you eat, how often you eat, and how much. Lets see the remedy...

Traditional Remedies -

Ginger -

  • Ginger has been used for settling stomach upsets and quelling nausea. None of them knows how it works but it improves digestion and it has antispasmodic properties, which is a helpful remedy for stomach cramps. (Caution - Do not take large quantities of ginger if you are taking blood thinning medication ).

  • Follow a meal with a few pieces of candied root ginger or ginger tea.

  • To make tea, stir a teaspoon of freshly grated ginger root into a cup of boiling water, steep for 10 minutes, and strain.

Chamomile -

  • chamomile works for indigestion. The herb is best taken as a soothing tea - it's available in sachets from a health verdict shop or supermarket. Drink a cup before your meals (2 cups in a day).

Pamper Yourself with Peppermint -

  • Peppermint oil soothes intestinal cramps and helps to relieve abdominal bloating. Don't take capsules instead try rounding off meals with a refreshing cup of peppermint tea. Place 1 dessert spoon of dried leaves or a peppermint tea bag into a cup of boiling water, leave to infuse for 10 minutes, and strain.

Sour Solution -

  • Try drinking a teaspoon of cider vinegar stirred into half a glass of water, after a large or rich meal. It will help you to digest the food ig you don't have enough acid in your stomach. Add little honey to sweeten the taste.

Gassy Bubble -

  • Warm ginger ale or lemonade is also said to soothe an upset stomach. Get rid of any gassy bubbles by first stirring the drink briskly.

  • A simple cup of hot water eases indigestion.

Aware of Juice and Dairy Products -

  • If dairy food makes you feel gassy and bloated the problem could be lactose intolerance -and inability to digest lactose, a sugar found in milk. if this triggers the symptoms that bother you, try cutting dairy foods from your diet or look for lactose-free products.

  • Now if you don't want to give up on milk buy liquid lactase from your pharmacy and add to milk before you drink it, or better switch to soya or rice milk.

  • Juice is healthy but can cause abdominal pain. It contains fructose a sugar that passes undigested into the colon. When bacteria in the colon finally break down the sugar, you're likely to get bloating and wind. If your drink juice not more them 150 ml at a time then drink it with food so you can digest it better.

Eating Styles -

  • Eat slowly. Wolfing down your food puts big chunks of material into your digestive system and you also swallow air, which contribute to bloating and flatulence

  • When you eat too fast food doesn't get fully coated with saliva, which interferes with the digestion process.

  • Eat your big meal of the day at least 3 hours before bedtime as your digestive system works best when you're still awake

  • The best way is to skip heavy dinner or replace it with salad or fruit.
